Does anyone have any experience in applying throttling strategies for runtime control of task generation? My particular interest is parallel functional programming (specifically for the GRIP architecture under development here at Glasgow), but I'm also interested in results for other classes of system, e.g. logic or dataflow languages (I know of the dataflow results from Manchester). I'd be especially interested in theoretical analyses, or practical experimentation with multiple strategies. I'll summarise any e-mail responses to the net.
