I am in the process of designing an application specific, tightly-coupled multiprocessor system ( < 50 processors). The application in mind has fairly coarse grained parallelism (process level) and we plan to have interprocess communications via shared memory. The design will be fairly high level as this will be the initial design. The design will be tested through simulations. The problem is that I am new at designing such a system and I am unsure as to the steps to be taken to reach the design. Some questions I have are: - How does one study the application in mind, i.e. are there tools available or should it be done analytically or do you take some measurements on a real system. - What simulation tools/platforms are available which would be suitable for simulating such a system. If you have gone through such a design process and are willing to share with me your experience/advice, I would be most grateful. Please reply to me via e-mail at lent@ee.ubc.ca.
