Networking and Advanced Computing Workshop
October 16-17, 1990
sponsored by the
National Center for Supercomputing Applications

The National Center for Supercomputing Applications announces the Networking
and Advance Computing Workshop at the Beckman Institute for Science and
Technology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign on October 16 and
17, 1990. Hosting the workshop are Charles E. Catlett, Manager of NCSA's
Networking and Systems Development group and Michael Welge, NCSA's Associate
Director of Applications. This workshop will combine two former annual
conferences: the annual Networking and Supercomputing Workshop and the annual
Parallelism and Vectorization Conference. Keynote speakers include Larry
L. Smarr, Director of the National Center for Supercomputing Applications
and Dr. A. G. Fraser, Executive Director, AT&T Bell Laboratories. The first
day will consist of lectures on massively parallel computing architectures
and applications; the second day will involve panel discussions on networking,
including updates on WAN and LAN technology, overviews of research and
development efforts such as those with the NRI Gigabit/second network
testbeds, and current information about the NSFNet backbone and international
Internet. A preliminary agenda follows:
