[comp.parallel] update to parallel debugger bibliography

utter@uunet.UU.NET (Paula Sue Utter) (09/22/90)

The update to the bibliography on parallel debuggers compiled by
Cherri Pancake and myself is now available through anonymos ftp
(finally!). Our apologies for not having it up by August 30th as we'd
promised in an early posting.

For those who don't know what the the bibliography covers, here's a
short description. It includes technical reports, journals and
conference papers, and Ph.D. dissertations dealing with parallel
debuggers. No distinction is made between tools for parallel and for
distributed systems, although debuggers implemented on multiprocessor or
multicomputer architectures which are only capable of analyzing serial
programs have been omitted. Treatments of parallel programming
environments, debugging methodology, or techniques for program analysis
are included when a significant portion of the publication is devoted to
factors influencing the design/implementation of debugging tools.

Version 1.0 of the bibliography has been available through anonymous
from devvax.tn.cornell.edu since October 1989. However, we've moved the
bibliography to another machine whose address is eagle.cnsf.cornell.edu.
Three compressed files are available:

debugger.bib Version 2.0 of the BIBTEX form of a bibliography
                     on parallel debuggers (revised 9-1-1990)

fix.bib Contains changes (as of 9-1-90) to Version 1.0
of the BIBTEX form of a bibliography on parallel
                     debuggers

new.bib Contains additions (as of 9-1-90) to Version
1.0 of the BIBTEX form of a bibliography on parallel
                     debuggers

For those who have the old version, it can simply be replaced with
Version 2.0 (in file debugger.bib). Alternatively, one may receive
files which contain only the changes (in file fix.bib) or the additions
(in file new.bib) to Version 1.0.

Currently, the bibliography files are available on eagle only in
BIBTEX format. However, a refer version is in the works which should
be available soon; I'll post again when it's ready.

The bibliography can be retrieved by the following steps:

1. Open a connection to eagle.cnsf.cornell.edu through ftp:

         'ftp eagle.cnsf.cornell.edu'

2.  Log on by entering 'anonymous' at the login name prompt;
any password will be accepted at the password prompt.

3. Issue the change directory command to get to the appropriate
    directory:

        'cd pub'

4. Issue the ftp 'get' command to transfer the desired file. For
example, to get Version 2.0, enter:

'get debugger.bib' (to transfer the BIBTEX version)

Since the bibliography will be periodically updated, we request that you
send e-mail to me so that we can add your name to a mailing list to
receive notice of when such changes are being made. Feel free to tell
anyone about how to get the bibliographies, but do ask them to contact
us at the above e-mail address so we can include them in update
notifications also. Again, we'd appreciate any corrections or additions
you might know about. Thanks to those who have already contributed!
