fpst@hubcap.clemson.edu (Steve Stevenson-Moderator) (11/21/90)
I forget that new readers are constantly coming on line. For those of you who are new to the readership, here's some ideas about interacting. Communicating with the group if you do not have direct access. First, let me say that there are a large number of readers who do not have access through USENET but receive the articles by mail. For those who do not have access, you should send your contributions by return mail to me: fpst@hubcap.clemson.edu or hypercube-request@hubcap.clemson.edu Our Charter: This group is interested in all forms of parallelism. It started life in 1986 as `comp.hypercube'. The readership deemed this too narrow and voted to change the name to `comp.parallel'. The articles often represent leading edge comments, benchmarking results, programming issues, hardware issues, etc. Posting Policy: My policy as moderator is to act as a conduit. I don't censor or editorialize. I try to make as few changes as possible---spelling or readability---without interferring. To the best of my recollection, no article has ever been rejected, although you may be asked to rewrite it for length. Bibliographies: There is a good deal of sharing of bibliographies on this group, as is often the case on USENET as a whole. Since parallelism is relatively new as a practical issue, there are lots of requests. There are several folks who monitor the group with extensive, general bibliographies. GENERAL USENET INFORMATION: For those new to ``netland'' may I suggest that you ``subscribe'' to two groups initially. When you're comfortable, you can ``unsubscribe.'' news.announce.newusers news.newusers.questions
