                Argonne National Laboratory,
                 Argonne IL 60439, U.S.A.

A course on the use and programming of parallel computers for
chemists run jointly by the Theoretical Chemistry Group and the
Advanced Research Computing Facility, Argonne National Laboratory.

Many researchers would acknowledge the leading role that parallel
computers are coming to play in both affordable and high-performance
computing, yet few computational chemistry groups have any expertise
in this area. This week long course is aimed at chemists of the
post-graduate level or beyond and strives to introduce computational
chemists to the use and programming of parallel computers. The first
two days of the course will be presented by staff of the ACRF and will
introduce many fundamental concepts of parallel programming.
Practical sessions will provide access to many of the ACRF's parallel
computers which include: Connection Machine, Alliant FX/8, Sequent
Symmetry, Butterfly, Encore, Stardent Titan and iPSC-i860.

The remainder of the course will be conducted by the Theoretical
Chemistry Group. Each session will be presented by an invited
practicing computational chemist and will examine aspects of
programming chemical applications in parallel. An emphasis will be
placed upon students gaining practical experience. The Alliant FX2800
and workstations of the Theoretical Chemistry Group and computers of
the ACRF will be accessible throughout the course, in addition to
other networked resources.

The course is restricted to approximately 20 participants and we
hope to fully cover the expenses of all graduate or post-doctoral
students that attend. Other attendees must pay for their own travel
and local expenses. Those interested in attending should contact
Robert Harrison at the below address (preferably by electronic mail)
by January 5, 1991.
