There has actually been lots of work on parallel or distributed programming and object-oriented programming. Eden and Emerald at the U. of Washington combined distributed and OOP, as did Clouds at Georgia Tech and (to a lesser extent) Argus at MIT. There was a workshop at OOPSLA'88 on parallel object-based systems that came out in SIGPLAN Notices in early 1989, the there was another workshop at OOPSLA'90, but the workshop results haven't been printed yet. Aki Yonezawa at the University of Tokyo has built a system called ABCPL (or something like that) and has a book on it. Gul Agha had a paper in the September issue of CACM on the subject.
