[comp.parallel] Standardizing parallel trace formats

utter@uunet.UU.NET (Paula Sue Utter) (01/31/91)

A birds-of-a-feather session on standardizing parallel trace formats was
held in November at the Supercomputing '90 conference. Descriptions of
the standardization effort are now available via anonymous ftp. Below
is a list of the files available:

bof_intro.txt.Z ASCII file describing the purpose of the BOF and
providing a summary of previous efforts

bof.tex.Z, bof.ps.Z LaTeX and PostScript versions of BOF session notes

LANL.ps.Z PostScript version of Malony and Nichols' summary
                        from the Los Alamos workshop

reed.ps.Z PostScript version of Reed's extended abstract on
                        self-defining trace formats

apple.txt.Z ASCII version of Hon's standard trace format

The bof_intro.txt file introduces the purpose of the BOF and summarizes
previous efforts. The bof.* files catalogue what transpired at the
session. The rest of the files contain supplementary information
mentioned in either the introduction or the summary.

The files can be retrieved by the following steps:

1. Open a connection to eagle.cnsf.cornell.edu through ftp:

         'ftp eagle.cnsf.cornell.edu'

2.  Log on by entering 'anonymous' at the login name prompt;
any password will be accepted at the password prompt.

3. Issue the change directory command to get to the appropriate
    directory:

        'cd pub/BOF'

4. Issue the ftp 'get' command to transfer the desired file. For
example, to get the LaTex version of the BOF session notes, enter:

        'get bof.tex.Z'

5. After you retrieve the compressed file, use the UNIX 'uncompress'
    command to restore it.

you have any problems getting the desired files. I hope you find the
write-ups useful.
