[net.micro] Other Flavors of Object-Orientedness

idhopper (12/09/82)

Despite all the items posted recently about object-oriented languages
and so forth, I haven't seen anything about the Actor family of
languages (e.g. Lieberman's ACT I). From what little I have seen of
them, they have many object-oriented characteristics, but they differ
from most of the languages mentioned in that they are intended to be
used to model intelligent systems, not to serve as general purpose
programming languages.

Is there anyone out there with extensive experience with these
languages? I would be interested in finding out just how these
languages differ, both pragmatically and conceptually, from Smalltalk or
Ada or "object-oriented" language X. What are their relative
advantages/disadvantages? Where can I find out more about them?
	Thanks.
