                      Call for Position Papers

            Systems Evaluation and Assessment Technology
                          1991 Workshop
                        August 20-22, 1991

                    Naval Surface Warfare Center
                     10901 New Hampshire Avenue
                 Silver Spring, Maryland 20903-5000

     This is a call for position papers to be presented at the 1991
Systems Evaluation and Assessment Technology Workshop which will be
held August 20-22, 1991 at Naval Surface Warfare Center in Silver
Spring, Maryland. This workshop is sponsored by the Naval Surface
Warfare Center (NAVSWC) and the Office of Naval Technology (ONT).

     This workshop will explore issues related to the evaluation
and assessment of complex, computer based mission critical computer
systems. Many DoD related systems tend to be large, complex, fault
tolerant, distributed, real-time critical systems. Of interest is
the development and enhancement of the system level ability to
model, simulate, execute, prototype, test and implement such
systems for parallel and distributed architectures. The emphasis
is on research and technology development, however case studies and
applications will also be addressed. Submitted papers should
attempt to focus on one of the areas listed below:

   System Modeling Technology:
      - System modeling for performance, reliability, security
        trade-off analysis;
      - Steady state, transient, and dynamic analysis of the system
        models;
      - Developing strategies for effective utilization of
        distributed architecture;

   Pseudo-Measurement Technology:
      - Optimization of the model configuration for prototyping;
      - Effective metrics for design process guidance;
      - Identification and isolation of the critical portions of a
        design for effective prototype development;
      - Decomposition and recomposition strategies;

   Non-Invasive Instrumentation:
      - Instrumentation techniques for performance/behavior
        analysis and prediction
      - Instrumentation techniques for massively parallel and
        distributed systems

     Please enclose (5) copies of the position papers, maximum of
5 pages for each position paper, along with a cover letter with the
author's name(s), abstract title, area of interest, and the name,
address, FAX, telephone number, and e-mail address (if available)
of the author who is responsible for all correspondence and
preparation for the workshop. The accepted position papers will be
published as a Proceedings, which will be distributed within the
Government and also made available to the general public.

        Submission Deadline:   1 July 1991
        Acceptance Notification:  20 July 1991
