                            CALL FOR PARTICIPATION

                           International Workshop on
                Parallel Processing for Artificial Intelligence

                     August 24 - 25, 1991 (During IJCAI-91)
                               Sydney, Australia

   The International Workshop on Parallel Processing for Artificial Intelli-
   gence will be held in Sydney, Australia in conjunction with IJCAI-91.

   In recent years we have seen the emergence of parallel machines. In
   spite of the wide acceptance of parallel processing as a major technology
   for modern computers, only a few AI applications have been implemented on
   parallel machines.

   The intent of this workshop is to bring together hardware architects, AI
   researchers and application engineers who are engaged in or interested in
   parallel artificial intelligence. Through key presentations and ample dis-
   cussions, it is hoped that the workshop will facilitate the exchange of
   ideas among researchers, as well as to bridge the gap between hardware ar-
   chitects and AI researchers. The granularity of parallelism discussed at
   the workshop will range from coarse-grain to fine-grain parallel process-
   ing.

   The program committee invites submission of high quality contributions on
   parallelism in AI. Topics of interest include but are not limited to the
   following:

   * Parallel Algorithms for AI
     Parallel Search, Problem Solving, Planning, Constraint-directed Reason-
     ing, Decision Making, Natural Language Processing, Vision, etc.

   * Parallel Inference Systems
     Parallel Deduction, Automated Theorem Proving, Concurrent Logic Langu-
     ages, Implementations, Performance Evaluations, etc.

   * Massive Parallelism for AI
     Massively Parallel Machines (Architecture, Benchmarks, etc.), Spreading
     Activation, Connectionism, Bulk Data Processing, etc.

   Please submit two (2) copies to each of the three workshop co-chairmen
   listed below (i.e., a total of six copies) of either

     a full paper (approx. up to 15 pages)
     or
     an extended abstract (approx. 3 - 5 pages)

   by May 10. Please send, if possible, e-mail versions of your paper to the
   co-chairmen as well. All submitted papers and abstracts will be reviewed
   by the workshop committee. It is our intent to publish a workshop
   proceedings to be made available at the workshop. We intend that the
   workshop be held on an annual basis. An attempt will be made to hold it
   together with IJCAI when IJCAI is held and with AAAI when IJCAI is not
   held.
