Hey, look at that, this is the "tech"noid place... Anyway, I've hopefully posted a new program called SetCPU to the amiga sources group. I say "hopefully", because the first try I had at mailing the thing failed. In any case, this program may be of some use to folks playing around with 32 bit Amiga systems. It identifies the CPU installed, and if you've got a 68020 or 68030 in place, it lets you switch various cache parameters on and off. If you're one of the lucky few using a 68030, this will let you turn on the data cache, though I have yet to find a commercially available 68030 system on the Amiga that accesses memory in a data-cache compatible fashion. There are a few other problems in general when using a data cache in the current system. Like, how to convince your DMA driven hard disk to clear the cache after it's done (hint: patch the driver, if you can) and how to avoid data cache conflicts when a series of programs are loaded and unloaded, thus potentially sharing the same data areas (hint: maybe patching the program loader will help here). Anyway, 32 bit stuff is good to think about right now if you're writing Amiga programs; the number of 32 bit systems in use isn't likely to go down.... -- Dave Haynie "The B2000 Guy" Commodore-Amiga "The Crew That Never Rests" {ihnp4|uunet|rutgers}!cbmvax!daveh PLINK: D-DAVE H BIX: hazy "I can't relax, 'cause I'm a Boinger!"
