COMMODORE 64 System Specs
System Unit:
Microprocessor - 6510, uses the same instruction as the
6502, but has additional I/O lines.
Memory - 64K of RAM, 39K are user-accessible for
BASIC programs; 52K for machine language
programs.
20K of internal ROM contain the operating
system and Commodore BASIC language.
Keyboard - Full-size typewriter style. 66 keys, upper
and lower case. Four unassigned program function
keys.
Display - 40 columns by 25 lines, 255 combinations of
border/background colors, 16 text colors and
use of all 64 PET graphic characters.
High resolution graphics mode of 320 x 200 pixels.
Can use 16 colors simultaneously.
Eight independently movable Sprites can be created
for games and animation. Each is 21 x 24 pixels
and may contain up to three colors.
Sound - 6581 Sound Interface Device produces three
independent voices, each with a range of nine
octaves. Four wave forms are available:
sawtooth, triangle, variable pulse, and noise.
Programmable attack, decay, release, and sustain.
Programmable filter can be individually selected for
each voice; provides low-pass, high-pass, band-pass,
or notch outputs. Variable resonance and master
volume control.
Peripherals - The Commodore 64 will support:
Datasette Recorder
Single-Disk Unit (VIC 1541) 170K.
Disk includes it's own microprocessor and
memory system, therefore it doesn't require
memory resources from the C-64 main unit. The
C-64 will support up to 5 single-disk units.
Printer (VIC 1515)
30 cps, dot-matrix, plain tractor feed.
PET Emulator
Audio and video connections, direct out to stereo
and TV.
Game Cartridge Slot
Interface for two joy sticks, four game paddles, or
a lightpen.
A Z80 micro on a plug in cartridge enables the C-64
to run CP/M programs.
