From: Bill Rizzi <RIZZI@Usc-Isib> I have used a program called CPMFTP that is put out by some people at UCLA. It can transfer files to and from microcomputers and an IBM 360 class machine in a TSO environment. If this is the program referred to in a previous message (and I believe it is) then I must clarify a few things about it. First of all it is primarily a file transfer/terminal program on the order of the modem2 package for CP/M. It's only saving grace is that it can communicate with an IBM machine. Certainly it can be viewed as an intelligent front end for a mainframe but I feel that is misleading. The version I used had several bugs and a horrible (TERRIBLE) user interface. I understand that it has actually been used to send files in both directions after considerable effort and calls to the campus. Eight-bit transfer is possible through protocol chicanery - IBM only uses 7 (physical) bit lines. UCLA will not provide any support other than minimal documentation on how to patch the program for specific hardware. They do have versions for several different micros. Use it if you must, but first investigate KERMIT - I believe it to be a MUCH better program. Bill Catchings (CU.WBC3@CMU-CS-C) can provide more information about it. If anyone is still interested in CPMFTP, I can provide some documentation for it as soon as I transfer from the IBM (give me a week ...) Bill (RIZZI@ISIB) -------
