[comp.sys.amiga.tech] JET frustration

SLMYQ@USU.BITNET (04/18/88)

Has *ANYONE* ever figured out a way to avoid enemy missiles? I've tried
everything, and haven't come up with a way to avoid even half the missiles.[
Frustrating.

Generally, I can avoid more than 80% of them up until about level 8 or 9.
But it sure is hard to describe what I do with only text! The thing to
consider is that the missle can change course slightly to intercept you
if you are driving straight at it. If you are moving to the side it has
to continue changin direction. I usually fly right or left and then do
a wing over in the other direction when the missle gets closer. This moves
right in front of it but also causes it to pass astern. The missle trys
to turn around and can't, losing it's lock on me. Note also that the
Migs missles are heat seeking and turning off your After burners while
being tracked can help your chances immensely. Another good move is the
revers himmelmann where you roll upside down and then do half a loop down
and to the side.

These opinions are my own and no one elses, but you knew that didn't you.

This doesn't belong on comp.sys.amiga.tech, does it...?

	But...
You need speed to outrun the missiles. I suggest flying
away from the MiG's for a while, until you're going about Mach 1. It
seems that missiles will not hit you as long as you are real low to the ground
(about 100 ft.). When missiles are locked on you, pull straight up and wag
around a little and they will (usually) miss. Then you can attack the MiG's
from up high, build up speed, and then go up again to avoid the mass of
missles they fire back at you.
Or you can just play on Level 0, like my roommate does!
Anyone tried two player mode yet? Fun as hell.

Ok, here is the truth about missiles. This system always works for
avoiding them, so you might consider it ruining the game. If you
don't want to know, don't look at the rest of this article.

Ok, get up to more than mach 1, langing gear up, afterburners on, full power.
When a missile comes close, zoom in your radar to 1 mile radius and make sure
it comes in from the left or right sides. If it comes from top or bottom, it
will have a chance of hitting you. You must bank the plane to make sure
they come in from the left or right. There is considerable leeway, and this
trick avoids ALL missiles, I guarantee it!
