Since I am new to the Amiga I am unfamiliar with the graphics packages which are available. I want to digitize two-dimensional pictures of comets into an AMIGA and manipulate them. I can cross file with a SUN workstation which has IRAF, but it would be good to be able to do some preliminary work on the AMIGA. Are there some particularly good hardware and software systems? In the hardware I need as many levels of gray scale as possible ( one hundred would be nice ), and high dimensional stability. In the software I would need to be able to detect and measure motions of plasma in the comet tails relative to background stars, so cross-correlation or similar techniques would be needed. Are there standard packages now available for the Amiga???
