A project I'm working on (yes, another one) would really benefit from having some of the functions in a run-time library. The problem I'm having is that the skeleton library in the back of RKM vol2 (the White ones) doesn't work. The assembly and linkage steps go fine, but Exec always returns a NULL on OpenLibrary(). Since my experience has been the the RKM is wrong more often than not, where would I find a (hopefully) simplistic example of run-time libraries? Failing that, can anyone summarize why the RKM example doesn't work? Oh yeah ... I'm using Manx Aztec 3.40b assembler and linker. I've only found two good sources of info on this subject to
supplement the RKM. One is the recent DevCon Notes, which are
packed with yummy information about lots of things, and the
other is a book called "The KickStart Guide to the Amiga",
published by Ariadne Software LTD, out of Europe. The
Kickstart Guide explains that there are a number of diffent
types of libraries (maily Exec and AmigaDos libs) and likewise
mixed use of various terms which generally confuse the issues.xD

Internet sites can get two different sample libraries (one from James Synge, one from Matt Dillon, both in Aztec C) via anonymous FTP from swan.ulowell.edu:/amiga/libraries ... both were posted to comp.sys.amiga some time ago. To those non-FTP'able sites ... I'm working on getting a mail server running, but it requires some changes in the archives first. If you *need* some example library code and can't get it via FTP, let me know and I'll send it to you. James' library source is on fish disk #79, and Jim Mackraz has an example library on fish disk #87. A midi library is on fish disk #101 but I don't know if the source is for the library or just the utilities. ..Bob -- Bob Page, U of Lowell CS Dept. page@swan.ulowell.edu ulowell!page
