Ok it finally happened, Murphy strikes and a disk partition crashes. And to make matters worse I'm lecturing someone else on the virtues of adaquate backups at the moment it happens. You guessed it, the partition that crashes is one I don't have backed up (how embarassing:-) ) The symptoms: While compiling a modified version of the KA9Q TCP software I' get a disk full requester. I pop into another window and delete some files. Then pop back and restart the compile. After compiling 5 more modules I receive a requester - Disk Corrupt - Task held .etc I reboot or rather I attempt to reboot - the system hangs somewhere in the middle of my startup after mounting the partitions. Subsequent testing shows me that when I try to cd to the bad partition my CLI hangs. All background tasks keep running (RSLClock,Dmouse etc.). However as soon as I select the RSLClock window or attempt to open another CLI from dmouse those tasks quit also. No GURU's, no reboot, just unresponsive tasks. Running Diskdoctor hangs when it reaches track 56, no message, no GURU just no response. The configuration: A1000, PAL expansion with 1meg ram, two st225 hard disks Kickstart/Workbench 1.3 gamma,Fast File system partition is the one that died. Partitions: SFS_1: slow file system partition, drive 0 SFS_2: slow file system partition, drive 1 FFS_1: fast file system partition, SYS:, drive 0 FFS_2: this one died, drive 1 FFS_3: fast file system partition, drive 1 FFS_4: fast file system partition, drive 1 RSLClock13s , Dmouse , Shell 2.07m (thanks to the Authors ) Anyone have an idea as to why everything Hangs? I don't remember if disked works on Hard disks but will check that later tonight. This was my public domain source partition so all is not lost (just time :-) I can recover most of it from other sources, but it really bothers me that the system just hang's (even a GURU would be appreciated :-) :-). Thank's in advance Ken Koster uw-beaver!pilchuck!algedi!kenk
