[comp.sys.amiga.tech] Font Attributes

Here is a question that occured to me at the developers conference, and I
haven't found an answer after lots of playing and reading:

How do I use the designed attributes of a font on the Amiga?

 i.e.:
If I go into FED and load in Topaz 11 and then click on the "Make Bold"
option it fattens up the characters, and then I am free to save that
font. It will have the Designed attribute set for bold, and if I
try to open Topaz 11 'bold' it will find this font and not try to
SetSoftStyle() on it to make it bold as it already is. But when I saved
the font to disk, didn't I overwrite the old version of the font?
Is there no longer a Plain version of Topaz 11?

If the plain version is saved, how is it kept, does the topaz/11 file
  become topaz/11b after I bold it? Would I get a topaz/11i and topaz/11u
  also?

Ok, That is one area I am vauge on, if infact all versions of the font
are saved to disk then comes the question, what happens when I save
a font as talldot or widedot? Does it take a seperate file also?

 working example:
If I am working with a program and I have opened a screen that is
lowrez and interlaced and I want a widedot font, how do I find such
a font? Obviously if I want a font that is 17 points, but I don't care
what family, I can just do an AvailFonts() and read the list to see what
font I can use. Do I do availfonts and then open each fontname and check
if it matched my specification for designed widedot? That's alot of work,
can't I just say "open *.font in WIDE"?

Ok, so it is obvious that I have been thinking about fonts recently,
if any of you know more about this jazz I would appreciate a response
as I can't seem to figure the above questions.
