Some tidbits about supra drives: The ``old'' kind had three seperate components: the host adapter (the slap on the side thingie), the SCSI controller, and the drive itself (these twi fit inside the big box). With this kind, it was possible to swap out the drive and replace it with a bigger drive. Cheap upgrade. It was also possible to add on other drives, as the controller could support up to four drives. These techniques were alternatives to adding another Supra drive. However, Supra recently (?) changed this. They now use hard drives with an integrated SCSI controller. This means the route you have to upgade to a bigger drive is to swap out the drive and put in a larger drive with integrated controller. Also, Supra used to sell a 1MB card that went in the host adapter. When the price of 256K DRAMS went through the roof, they dropped it. The 1MB upgrade card for A500 (all that junk above is for the 1000) is being upgraded to use 1MB DRAMS, and will be a 2MB card. This is in the works right now. A similar card for the A1000 is being considered, but nothing is definite. Maybe if you called Supra ? Disclaimer: Somebody from Supra told me this. I believe it, but don't sue me if I use the wrong pronoun or this is all incorrect. -- Many have been bought by rich people, from other countries. richard@gryphon.CTS.COM {backbone}!gryphon!richard
