[comp.sys.amiga.tech] Janus Problems, Help!

RAN101@PSUVM.BITNET (10/21/88)

I've got an Amiga 2000 and a bridgecard along with 3MB Ram and a Hard disk
The problem is, I can't get the Bridgecard to access virtual drives or convert
files using AREAD/AWRITE between systems. I've got the device=jdisk.sys in my
config file, and have the jdisk.sys and jlink.exe files on my boot disk.
I'm only trying to access the virtual drives while the PCDisk program is runnin
g. whenever i invoke the jlink, aread, or awrite commands, the pc side of the
system freezes and cannot be warm-booted. the only way to get back into the pc
side of the system is to reboot the entire system.

I've tried recreating the config.sys file on my IBM boot disk, recopying the
AREAD, AWRITE, JDISK, and JLINK files onto my disks. I've also tried recopyin
g the Bridgecard software using the install procedure outlined in the bridgecar
d manual.

None of these measures have worked. The system last worked a couple of month
s ago just before i added a serial card to the PC side of the system. I've
also tried retrying the procedure with the serial card removed but had the same
results.

Can anyone help??? Any help I get would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Robb Nedwick

One thing I would suggest is to change the serial port switches from COM1:
to COM2:. COM1: conflicts with the interrupts used for Bridgecard<-|Amiga
communication. COM2: doesn't.

Sounds like the PC handler code is not getting loaded. Opwn the pcwindows
display and reboot the PC. You should see a message:

Janus Handler Found at Segemnt xxxx

If you do not see this message use PCPrefs to set the memory window to
D000 for an AT or E000 for an XT or sidecar, save the settings and reboot
the amiga. If you still don't see the message make sure the file pc.boot is in
the sys:sidecar directory.

I just spent a frustrating weekend installing 1.3 on a hard drive
(2090 and Miniscribe). I set up a 2.5 MB "slow" partition for
Bridgeboard things. I have the SMART software which is what we
use at work. It takes about 20 minutes to install SMART on the
IBM partition. When I would reboot the bridgeboard, the files
would be trashed. Eventually way in the back of my brain a light
came on. I remembered a remark someone once made about Jlink...
If you don't properly close the link the files will be trashed.
He said this is not documented in the bridgeboard book, I
couldn't find it in there either. So.... if you close the link,
like "JLINK C: /U" before you exit, better luck.
