rap@ardent.UUCP (Rob Peck) (02/03/89)
When I mentioned the Amiga Mail distribution regarding getting small
developers together, many folks on the net (well, at least 5 anyway)
said that being "unregistered", they did not know about the offer.
So here is the text that appeared in Amiga Mail, along with a tiny
prelude paragraph that explains why I submitted it. A previous posting
stated that after almost 4 months, I had only 3 folks respond via
mail. As this was nowhere near enough to make it feasible in any
way, I posted a message stating that I was losing interest. But for
those Usenet'ers who might not be registered developers, here is the
original text anyway -- maybe this WILL happen after all, SOMEDAY,
evidently "we" are not ready for it yet.

"sent to CBM & published in Amiga Mail to certified and registered developers"

The target for this material is the small developer who is directly
marketing software or other materials, but is too small (or perhaps
not professional enough yet) to successfully attract the attention
of the Amiga distributors.
The proposed copy for this first placement:
Rob Peck proposes to form the Amiga Developer's
Cooperative (ADC), slated to provide developers of
Amiga hardware or software with a way to minimize
costs of placing advertising for their products.
Magazine ads created and placed by ADC would be kept very
simple, listing categories of products, the developer's
company name, the product name and the price. Readers of
the ad would be asked to send approx $2.00 to cover mailing
and printing costs to receive a brochure/catalog in which
developer's ads are printed.
The advertising cost would be shared among the developers
in direct proportion to the number of products that they
wished to list in a separate catalog to be mailed to users
interested in finding out more about the products listed in
the ad. To keep the costs down, a full page B/W ad per
product is what one might expect to provide for the catalog.
The products would be ordered directly from the developers,
in that the Coop (to be run by a busy-guy) DOES NOT wish to
become a dealer, distributor or supporter of the software
being listed. By widening the direct contact between
developers and users, and with more product sold, one might
finally attract the attention of the Amiga distributors
(or resellers), but with lessened upfront cash layouts.
Developers interested in participating are encouraged to
send comments and questions to the address below. From
those who respond, a list of interested developers will
be generated and will be provided to all respondents unless
explicitly requested that they not be listed. Thus
even if ADC does not happen right away, the respondents
can keep in touch with each other and potentially do this
on their own at a later date:

Disclaimer - This is a new idea, not all of the answers
are yet available; in fact, not all of the questions
have even been asked. If you have ideas that you think
"we" can use, feel free to express them.
