[net.micro] Cleaning disk drive heads

I can give you two examples.
I have Qume drives (DT8). When I originally got the first two,
the manual said not to clean heads at all, due to the possible
damage one could cause, (they referred to the head gimbal mounts).
Later, I got two more, and the later published manual said to clean
the heads with a good (?) commercial head cleaning system (I have used
the Clean Cycle, no plug intended).
I had to send in one of the old drives when it failed, and the fix
sheet said something to the effect 'head assembly replaced due to
excessive oxide build-up from improper cleaning' (catch22?).
Apparently they now have stronger gimbal mounts for heads, so they
allow for cleaning heads. Hope this is useful..
  Dick..
