[comp.sys.amiga.tech] diff ZorroI ZorroII

rusty@hocpa.UUCP (M.W.HADDOCK) (02/09/89)

Hello! I have an old Zorro I expansion box on my A1000 and I'd like to
purchase the Microbotics HardFrame disk controller card which is Zorro II.
Now, the form factor of this card is such that it will fix into my Zorro I
box (it's a 1/2-card). My question is: Does it have any chance of working
in my Zorro I box? I know there were some changes in the buss signals but I
haven't a clue as to how extensive they were.

Could anyone who's knowledgable about the two busses be so kind as to help
me out? I've got some money burning a hole in my pocket. :-) Thanks!

There is basically no difference between Zorro I and Zorro II besides the
form factor change. As long as your card cage is fully Zorro I compatible,
the HardFrame should work. We use MiniRack Ds with the sides cut off for
testing A2000 boards. Just be sure you insert it with the proper orientation,
or bad things might happen.

Rusty,

We routinely test A2000 boards in our Mini-Rack-D (which is what you
have isn't it?) with its sides cut off. The half card from Microbotics
sounds promising to be able to fit without resorting to the hacksaw.

If you try this please let me know how it comes out. There's a
reasonable chance it will work.
