I recently purchased a Boing optical mouse for use with a 1000. It worked fine for about 15 minutes after which there was no response to horizontal movement, only vertical. I tried it on another 1000 as well as a 500 & 2000 where it functioned perfectly. This leads me to believe there is something wrong with my machine although the stock mouse works fine. I'm familiar with the effects of rotating the optical mouse pad 90 degrees, and this is definitely NOT the problem. I don't know much about hardware but my understanding was that the Boing mouse should be electrically identical to the stock mouse (with the exception of the middle mouse button). Does anyone have any ideas as to why the stock mouse would work but there would be no horizontal response with the optical mouse ? By the way, I highly recommend this mouse. It lists for $114, Creative Computers has them for $109. This is kind of pricey for an accessory, but I found it worthwhile. It's physically identical to the mouse on Suns and other machines except that the pad is flexible plastic instead of aluminum and seems to have a smaller grid spacing. Thanks for any information.
