In article <15609@gryphon.COM> you write: > >Just received a curious letter from someone in Europe reporting a >PAL problem I've never heard of before. The result is disastrous as only 3/4 of >the PAL pictures are displayed (He's using the Director in a self-boot >slideshow). > >Is this a known problem with PAL Amiga's, or is this guy's Amiga just >out of whack? > You have not mentioned whether the Amiga is being booted up from cold, or is just being reset. With the PAL Amiga if a reset is attempted and any processes in memory do not release the memory they are using then problems can occur with the Amiga running out of free memory. Quite often if you are only very slightly short of memory then the process you are trying to run will load and run, but will not be able to allocate itself enough memory for buffers etc. This can be a problem with the director, if there is not enough memory available to load a screen display then the end of the display will be cut off! I do not think the Amiga is setting itself up as an NTSC model as only enough of the display is removed to allow it to be loaded. This problem happens with all the people I know with Amigas, the only solution is to either swith of before loading Director, or to buy some more memory. >Keith Doyle >keithd@gryphon.COM gryphon!keithd gryphon!keithd@elroy.jpl.nasa.gov ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Peter Mitchell.
