INTEL 86-380 is a 8086 based system that comes with RMX-86 monitor, 384 K RAM and possibly a disk drive for a 35 M Winchester drive. Has anyone used this or any other closely related system ? How good is the RMX-86 ? Does it have any obvious short comings, problems, plus points etc ? What is your application ? Did you consider using a floppy in place of the Winchester drive ? The desired application for this system is in a chemical lab where it will be used as a supervisor monitoring temperature, pressure etc, making decisions as to whether to a open a valve, set a controller in motion etc. It will have a Fortran compiler to accommodate numerical programs to aid the supervisor. It is not known at this point what the speed requirements will be. This information is requested on behalf of someone else who is a chemical engineer with not much experience in selecting systems for his work. I for myself don't have any experience in it. So please send in as much information as you can. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Sundar Iyengar decvax!cwruecmp!sundar
