Anyone out there heard of/used any of the Apple II clones from Taiwan, such as the AP II, and the ellpa II (Apple II spelled sideways sort of)? I have heard that they are available for around 10% of the price of an Apple. I would not buy an apple normally, but if the deal is that good I am tempted. Actually, a friend has the Franklin Ace 1000 (tm) and is quite happy with it. He got the Ace, (a 6502 based Apple II clone, fully com- patible hard & software) 2 disk drives, a printer (MX-80) and a Zenith monitor for, uh, $1700 dollars or so. (Needless to say, he got most of the software from me.) It seems like a nice unit. The keyboard is far superior to the regular Apple, and the speed/noise-level etcetera are all the same, if not better than the Apple. The power switch, and the overall unit are also built better. If I were recommending a 6502-based system to anyone, I would suggest this model, since it has an advantage over most of the Taiwanese (that looks wrong) computers; you can buy it at a local store, so it can be repaired locally!
