I did a little experimentation, and it seems that install forces the first longword of block 0 to 'DOS\0' and the third to 880 (the root block #). This seems like a bug, since it would do bad things to FFS ('DOS\1') floppies, or anything that uses the third longword for dos-specific data like it's supposed to be available for. Questions: 1) Is this a bug? 2) Will it get fixed (the proper behaviour is to leave those two words alone) when FFS for floppies and things rolls around? 3) In the meantime, is there some kludge that could be used to stop this, or should Irecognise my disks some other way. Looking at the first longword is the "right" way, but there are plenty of others... -- -Colin Plumb
