Does anyone know of an editor which will allow me to modify bytes in a binary files? For example, I would like to be able to replace a byte, whose offset from the beginning of a file is phi, with a byte whose value is omega. I am looking for something a little more fancy than this but the point should be clear. Thanks, Gary. Ps. Is it available on a Fish Disk.

For heavy binary mucking, I'm sure a sector-editor that knows about files would be your best bet, but I'd like to recommend a good solution for light editing. I use a PD Strings program along with CygnusEd Professional. CED Pro isn't public domain, but it's a bargain (it has the exact features I need, plus a zillion more, plus it is uncrashable, plus an ARexx port). So, if you're in the market for a good (commercial) text editor, but want to do some binary editing every once in a while, I'd recommend CygnusEd Pro and use the fact that it'll read a binary file (and let you enter chars in decimal). -Tom -- Tom Limoncelli -- tlimonce@drunivac.Bitnet -- limonce@pilot.njin.net Drew University -- Box 1060, Madison, NJ -- 201-408-5389 Standard Disclaimer: I am not the mouth-piece of Drew University "DEC's All-In-1 isn't completely useless, but it's a nice attempt."

Re: editing binary files on the Amiga ... Look for the program NewZAP (formerly FileZap) by John Hodgson. It's in the Fish Disk collection. Latest version is, I believe, 3.1, but 3.0 works fine, too.
