[comp.sys.amiga.tech] Hard Drive blues. Help!!!

Yesterday, it was about 95 degrees in my room. As as I was working on my
program, the hard drive parked! The green light (hard drive LED) stayed
on, and I had to turn off the computer and turn it back on to get the hard drive to unpark. First of all, let me give you some info on my system:

Got an A2500, rodime 40meg. System is about 6 months old.

This isn't the first time my hard drive suddenly parked. It happened once
before, about 3 weeks ago. Both days that it happened, it was really hot
in the room (over 90). Can anyone tell me if heat is the only thing
causing it, or there is some deeper and more evil cause of this? Luckily,
I didn't lose too many of hours of work cause I have floppy backups of
everything, but when it parks while I'm saving a file, that file is gone.
Ran Dave H's Disk Salv, and it parked while it was running too, so I
turned off the computer for a few hours, turned it back on, and it seems
to be working fine now. But I really would like to resolve this problem.
I don't always want to be looking over my shoulder, afraid my hard drive
will crash.

Interestingly enough, this isn't the only problem I have with the hard
drive. The drive makes REAL high pitched squeaking noises frequently,
and I think I'm going deaf. It's THAT BAD! You can hear it from the
other side of the house at times. I didn't take care of it earlier
because I was (and still am) working on a commercial game, and can't
afford to spare the time to part with the hard drive. Some of you may
remember my post asking about that, and I tried following some of the
suggestions, but the Rodime is a 3.5 compact unit with nothing visibly
mechanical for me to tweek with. I took it in to the AUTHORIZED repair
man, and he couldn't figure out what to do, so I'm up shit creek as
usual.

Can anyone from customer support arrange to send me a loaner hard drive
while my current hunk of junk gets repaired or replaced? I'm a
developer, a poor college student who scrapped and saved and used
financial aid to get an A2500, and have had very bad luck with it.
I'd like to send the Rodime away, but I'm about 80% done with my
project, and I absolutely need the hard drive for compiles and links.
There's too much stuff for the 3 megs of ram drive to handle.

I'd be grateful for any advice or help I can get. Thanks in
advance...

Sounds like the drive's got a heat safety. I've seen plenty of CD units
with it so I'm not too suprised. As long as all it does is park and
that's all, don't worry too much about it.
