I have just installed my bright-shiny new $579 512K ram + rs232 interface board from alpha byte in my PC. You are getting this message from an obviously-functioning serial port, and the ram passes the 1:20 minute power- on diagnostic test, so i assume that it's ok. So what's my problem? I have tried the AST Superdrv utility, which has great promise as far as *very* flexible use of ram space. I have tried the Quadram QD.EXE utility which creates a single C: drive. I have tried the Seattle FLASHdisk utility which is the only one of the 3 which can get past the 544kb motherboard switch acknowledgement of memory size. Why have i tried them all? Because none of them works! QD flat doesn't work. period. Superdrv sets everything up ok, but i can copy a file to it once ok, then the next time it will be wacko. Then the whole thing will die. sometimes basic will load ok with it, sometimes not. FLASH sets up ok, but when i start copying files onto the ramdisk, it goes nuts too. Any suggestions? What's wrong? any patches? anyone experience the same things, or should i suspect my board? wish i were more into hardware!
