Hello All, I am deciding on a new system to buy. I am choosing between an IBM 386 machine and an AMIGA system. I work in a sun environment using C++ and would like to remain compatable. (UNIX C++ ....) I am familiar with amiga products and have great respect for the engineers that designed it. The had alot for forsight (Multi-tasking, 68000 based system ...), but I have been very discouraged by the lack of advertising for the amiga. I am interested in doing some development work, but I am leary to commiting to an Amiga Environment. The saving grace for the amiga would be the implementation of UNIX on the amiga. Does anyone know of the progress on this effort???? I have many questions about the amiga and thought that this was the place to go. Please answer any of the questions that you can. I am trying to gather as much info as possible before I make the plunge. Please Give any comments/ suggestions for amiga configurations that would perform well if/when UNIX is brought to the Amiga. I am looking at this configuration: Amiga 2000 GVP 68030/68882/8meg with matching hard drive (comments on this??) I like the paging and cache capabilities of the 68030. I also like the ASYNCH design of the board. If you have had experience with the GVP board, or can recommend a substite, please let me know. List of Question: 1) What is the status of UNIX on the Amiga 2) How does Lattice C++ compare to ATT C++ v2.0 3) Has any of the GNU software been ported to the amiga gcc, g++ emacs (the real one) bison flex make 4) Does Comadore plan to promote the amiga???? Thanks Michael Schneider
