Accepting Applicants for CATS Positions ======================================= August 8, 1989 We are currently accepting applicants for a variety of technical and non-technical positions in the Commodore Applications & Technical Support group. The CATS group provides technical support to third party developers of software and hardware for the Amiga and other proprietary Commodore computer systems. The CATS technical support group provides phone and network assistance to registered developers, and supports development by providing programming examples and guidelines, utilities, technical articles, and developer manuals. Inside Commodore, this group provides a link between the development community and the hardware and OS designers, and offers valued input during the design and testing of new software and hardware. The administrative side of this group handles all non-technical aspects of developer support including the developer database, orders, developer's conferences, and marketing support. The CATS applications group will take an active role in determining the key areas where third party products are needed, and in evangelizing third parties to produce new and enhanced products for Commodore's proprietary hardware and software In addition, this group will work to insure that key products are localized and sold in all countries. CATS offers a varied and challenging work environment, high visibility and growth potential, and also some interesting travel opportunities. CATS Positions Available: Technical Support Group: (note - description of duties and requirements for technical positions can be found at the end of this document) Technical: Support Programmer I - entry-level Amiga support Support Programmer II - focus on Amiga standards (Arexx, IFF, other) Support Programmer II - focus on standards (user interface, other) Support Programmer II - 6502 systems/peripherals support Support Engineer II - Amiga hardware design support Asst. Technical Editor - compile/edit/typeset tech support materials Administrative: Administrative Manager - responsible for all non-technical aspects of the developer support program Applications Support Group: Software Development Co-ordinator - work with developers under contract to C=. Involves testing, administration and evaluation of applications projects. Authoring System Support Specialist - to support developers writing products using The C= authoring system. Evangelists - (education, productivity, recreation, video, scientific/engineering, UNIX, LANS, etc.) work to to strengthen the Amiga applications base in their area of specialization. Developer Marketing Support Specialist - Advise developers on Marketing issues and distribute info about C= marketing plans/programs to developers. If you would like to be considered for a position, please send the following information: - Which job(s) your are interested in - Resume - Salary requirements - Through description of your Commodore-specific experience - Samples of your code and technical writing (technical positions) to: CBM - Personnel Department 1200 Wilson Drive West Chester, PA 19380 ATTN - CATS applications Technical Job Descriptions ========================== Department: Commodore Applications & Technical Support Reports to: Carolyn Scheppner General Duties and Responsibilities: Provide phone and network support to software [hardware] developers Research and provide solutions for developer questions Write technical articles and developer documentation Provide in-house technical support Program utilities and examples Handle developer bug reports Study and program new Commodore systems and peripherals Beta-test new system software and hardware Skills and Education: General Requirements (different priorities for certain positions): At least 2 (or 1) years of microcomputer programming Experience (diverse as possible) in programming the Amiga (C,68000), or Commodore's 6502 systems, or HW design/interfacing experience Discipline for designing software/hardware in a safe and upwardly compatible manner Ability to communicate complex technical information, both verbally and in writing Ability to manage multiple tasks and assignments of varied duration and priority Additional specific requirements for certain positions: The standards positions require some experience in the areas of IFF, other file format standards, Arexx, other IPC, other user interface and windowing systems, networks. The 6502 position requires C64 or C128 programming (Basic and 6502) experience. Hardware and interfacing experience beneficial. For the hardware support position, we are looking for someone experienced in 68000/10/20/30, CIAs, PAL equations, RS-232 and Centronics interfaces, SCSI/ST-506/XT, network hardware, video, and audio. PC hardware experience beneficial also. The assistant technical editor position requires superior technical writing, editing, and organizational skills. Troff, PostScript, and structured drawing experience beneficial.
