Can some kind soul answer me a few questions about hard drive device driver access? I am looking to read and write a hard drive at the sector level, much as DiskEd, DiskSalv, DiskCopy, etc do. I would like it to be independent of the driver, but I can live with SCSI-oriented stuff (about which I know nothing). I need to know basically how to inhibit, read, and write the drive, and I need to know how to find out the number of sectors on the partition and the sector number of the root of the partition (given the dh0: type name). Can somebody either point me to the source of some program that does some of this (I have most fishes thru 196, amicus thru 26, and about 9 cucug disks) or tell me what manual to look in, and maybe what section? Are the drivers designed to respond to the same things as trackdisk.device offers? (I assume so, since FFS does work from floppies, altho with problems.) Any help, especially in the area of finding the info about the partition, would be helpful. I have the RKMs for 1.1 (the all-white covers). Thanks in advance!!! -- Darren
