After whining plaintively about my printer problems I got a bunch of good advice in return and now my problems are solved. I covered up pin 14 on my Centronics connector with a piece of tape and get no more extra line- feeds. The typical programmer that I am, I never even considered that the problem could have been caused by hardware. If only this Epson pin 14 behaviour were documented somewhere more prominently than a single sentence in a 200+ page printer manual! If only Commodore parallel cables didn't pass through that line!
