I am wondering if I can get an official statement from Commodore as to the status of the Rev 6 and 6.1 motherboards. I am currently working for a dealer in Ottawa, Canada, and am having quite a few problems with these systems, and quite a few RAM expansion boards. Example Today: Customer bought a ProRam 2000 (Marketed by PP&S and designed by ASDG), and populated with 2M. This customer, when he installed the board got a constant reset, and could not get the machine to load. He brought in to us with his machine (At my request, as I had tested the board before we released it to the customer), and shure enough, it was the Much Roumered about Rev 6.0 motherboard. I checked the ProRam in various boards ( a few 4.2, a 4.0, and a few 6.0), and it worked in every NON- 6.0 motherboard, but failed in various ways with the 6.0 (One other would do a constant reset, another a 68000 exception 04, yet another was fine until a program was actually loaded into FastRam and it Froze). Other boards of various types were checked, and they all consistantly failed in one way or another in the 6.0 motherboards. If Commodore could release a Fix to the problem, or even a simple summary of what causes the problem (Maybe someone from ASDG could help with this) it would be very appreciated. This is one problem that commodore should get onto IMMEDIATELY, as it is just such a messup that can cause dealers to once and for all give up on Commodore. If the motherboard cannot be fixed, I trust a FREE tradin with the revised and fixed motherboard will be put in place for the Customers and the dealers. We've already lost enough money because of this problem. -- Opinions expressed in this message are my Own. My Employer does not even know what Usenet IS. AMEN! I have a REV 6 motherboard for which I bought a Hardframe more than three months ago and it STILL doesn't work. I keep asking Microbotics and they just say that Commodore is "working on it". Well I for one am sick and tired of the entire fiasco and wish I could get a straigh answer from SOMEBODY on this subject. In the meantime, anyone who buys a REV 6 motherboard is potentially getting screwed! I do not necessarily blame anyone in particular but HELL I paid good money for something which is supposed to work and for three months I havent gotten a straight answer PERIOD. I AM PISSED! -- Jim Sanchez {sun, hplabs}!sytek!syteke!jim OR Hughes LAN Systems, Brussels mcvax!prlb2!sunbim!syteke!jim

I bought a 2000 with a 6.0 motherboard, a HardFrame, and an 8-Up! with 2 megs RAM, but I've had absolutely no problems with it. In fact, it has been much less troublesome than my old 500 (which is gone now, BTW). One thing I did do, though: I replaced the 68000 with a 68010 (ceramic, 10 MHz). I tend to doubt that this makes a difference, but I've heard rumors that there are some bad CPUs floating around in the 6.0 motherboards. >Jim Sanchez {sun, hplabs}!sytek!syteke!jim OR >Hughes LAN Systems, Brussels mcvax!prlb2!sunbim!syteke!jim *-----------------------------------------------------------------* Dan Cogswell "Gangster Fun -- It's the beat (313)625-3234 that you can wig-out to..." cogswell@unix.secs.oakland.edu *-----------------------------------------------------------------*

And reasonably, so, Camper, but be relieved.
As additional evidence that there is a "New Commodore" at work, it was
announced yesterday on BIX that the service centers have been advised
of the problems with 6.0 and 6.1 motherboards and instructed to repair
or replace them (free, I presume) to 6.2 levels if you are having problems.
The delay in doing so has undoubtedly been frustrating for purchasers,
and it would sure be nice if these things never happened (but they happened
to IBM PS/2-70 I think), and I conjecture that Commodore chose to keep
mum about the problem until they had a solution in place, which they
have now said they do.
So, figure out what a service center is, and give them a call. They
are supposed to be up to speed on the details of the plan by now, according
to the posting on BIX.
I am sure that Microbotics (represented on BIX) has gotten the total lowdown
since the announcement and will probably also be advising their customers. I
do not know what other peripheral vendors have been affected.

[line eater food] Seems I have heard a rumor floating around that there is a capacitor that was added to the motherboard as part of the mods for passing FCC. Could it be that finding and removing (or replacing) a cap somewhere would make the balky rev 6 motherboards behave?
