I had planned to do an article for Amiga World about this, but I spoke to Leo and he told me it has not yet been released. Something about not properly preserving A6 or whatever and it needs some more work. I am sure that you'll be hearing more about it. Meantime, there is supposed to be some kinda IFF library from a source in Switzerland on a recent fish disk, circa 186 or so. It may or may not be the "latest" one ... had heard that one released version had some bugs but dont know what they were. To look at the parsing of an 8SVX sound file, (sampled sound with no loopback, that is.. produced by Audiomaster II) look for my article in Compute's Amiga Resource, the most recent issue, that has a title on the front relating to 277 User Groups listed. I think the cover has a Maestro on it. The source code there plays a sampled sound, "Hello World" (not MY voice, but that of one of the editors). The source code there parses the file down to the point of finding the actual data to send to the audio device. A programmer with only a little experience could probably figure out how to dump this into a data structure that could be understood by his C program. Rob Peck

Extensive source code to read and play IFF 8SVX files (and IFF files in general) is included in my program, Chatterbox, which was sent to the moderator four of five months ago, but has yet to appear (to my knowledge) in comp.sources.amiga. Also, my IFF CAT archiver has a lot of IFF reading and writing code, including of course the ability to read and write CATs. It too was sent off months ago and has yet to appear. It's not a library, though. -- -- uunet!sugar!karl "There is hopeful symbolism in the fact that -- flags do not wave in a vacuum." -- Arthur C. Clarke -- Usenet access: (713) 438-5018

I hate to nag, but its time to bellyache again about the lack of c.s.a. and c.b.a. postings. There's all kinds of new PD stuff appearing daily for the Amiga, but none of it ever appears on usenet. I realize that Bob Page is still negotiating a newish job and is likely strapped for spare time. However, in my 3 years here, there has _never_ been a constant flow of Amiga sources/binaries (there have been gushes, yes). I've never seen a lack of atari, mac, pc, sun, x, games, or misc binaries/sources. whine, whine, whine... -scott -- Scott Evernden PRIME Computer Inc. scott@ssgp32.Prime.COM Commercial Systems Group uunet!ssgp32!scott Technology Drive (508) 478-8600 x2984 Milford, MA 01757

The deal is that I'm *busy*. I'm down here in Glendale (that's near Burbank/Hollyweird) at the offices of Silent Software, trying to finish Onion once and for all. I want you all to imagine a very tired and very irritated programmer with a sore back sitting in front of an Amiga working on a program with a 40-watt lamp behind him. Fortunately, I have my stuffed lion doll with me. Iffparse.library is on hold until Onion is finished (not so long as you might think). When iffparse moves to the front burner, the link library stubs will be fixed (they don't save/restore A6), re-written in Lattice 5.0? (the '?' is a wildcard), have a few features added, a few weirdnesses removed, upgraded to Beta status, and made available for general consumption. Those of you who have the Alpha release, *please* mail your comments; I still read my mail here. It's not like I'm dead or anything. This will be your *only* opportunity to make bug reports/comments/suggestions before the library design is cast in stone. As for new display hacks... Well, there's this space docking animation I did that I think you'll like. However, it's being distributed through unexpected channels (wink!). I'm pleased that there's interest in the parser, and I hope you'll all be patient as I really am dancing as fast as I can. _-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_ Leo L. I'm still here... We gave out prototype libraries at a BADGE meeting a while back. There was a copy of almost the same thing in the disk set given out at the developer conference as well. Didn't get too much in the way of comments either. | What's the deal? Deal is, we'd like to have it in 1.4. Folx at Commodore have kind of told us sort of what this might take, and we're working on it. Main factors here are my day job and Leo's Onion-type activities. It should soon be moving to a front burner. I'm glad to see some interest, but I'd be more interested in hearing suggestions or especially problems with the concept we presented at BADGE and the developer conference. If you have the stuff and haven't looked at it, I'd consider it a personal favor if you'd take a few minutes and glance over the documentation or code examples.
