[comp.sys.amiga.tech] Hardware-bashing audio problems

chris@contex.UUCP (Chris Anderson) (10/27/89)

I have an application which wants to directly manipulate the AUDxxx
registers to make sounds. For functional timing reasons
the audio.device will not do what I want. Having written the
(seemingly quite simple) code to set up pointers, volume, DMA counts,
etc. I find that the audio is not reliably turned on. Yes, I know
about enabling the DMA.

Without getting into gruesome detail here, does anyone know of hardware
or software required magic to make the audio channels work right?
I tried disassembling the audio.device but it does Truly Bizarre Things.
Could somebody be turning offmy DMA for me? Is the hardware manual
lying? All help appreciated. Working code fragments especially nice.

Regards & Thanks
