[comp.sys.amiga.tech] Amiga OrR ,Clone, Or Both

bryantj@silver.bacs.indiana.edu (10/25/89)

Hi, I am thinking of getting a bridgeboard and an Amiga 2000
instead of getting an IBM clone, since I love the Amiga archetecture,
but want some IBM compatibility. But before I buy, I would like to know
something about the way the bridgeboards work with the Amigas.
Will either bridge model let you share access to the Amiga hard drive?
Are they really compatible or just "kind of compatible"?
And Finally I would like to know which graphics adaptation is used
ie EGA VGA CGA.. and if the ports- mouse, parallel, etc. can be used
by the clone process. Am I really dreaming? I would really apperciate
any info I could get on this.

Both of them do. You can boot each of them off any Amiga HD.

They are really compatible. (really)

The bridgeboard software emulates CGA. That is, IBM's graphic 4-color mode.
It does a very good job of it and most games run at 100%. Both the Amiga's
clock and mouse are sent to the bridgeboard via the software. The parallel
port is toggled between the Amiga and bridgeboard by simply clicking on
an icon. The Amiga's serial port cannot (well...) be shared, but that should
not be a problem since you probably wouldn't want to plug a modem into it
anyways. But if you insist on using a serial port for it, the expansion
slots inside are plentiful. EGA and VGA can be added, like any other clone,
into the expansion slots. However: you will need a different monitor to
view those graphic modes.

No, you aren't dreaming. I've had my bridgeboard 2 years now and am extremely
happy with it. I still find it magical that I can run ANY ibm application
along side Amiga applications. No incompatibilities whatsoever. It's a solid
product. If you have any more questions, feel free to email me...
