[comp.sys.amiga.tech] VGA monitors.

koshy@abekrd.UUCP (Koshy Abraham) (11/03/89)

I like some help with connecting a VGA monitor to the Amiga. First of all, is
the analog inputs on the VGA connector compatiable with the analog output of
the Amiga.

Following are the pinouts of the VGA analog display connector.

1. Red (out) 6. Red return 11. Mon ID (0) (in)
2. Geeen (out) 7. Grn return 12. Mon ID91) (in)
3. Blue (out) 8. Blue return 13. Horiz. sync (out)
4. Mon ID (2) (in) 9. (no pin) 14. Vert. sync (out)
5. Ground 10. Sync ret 15. (reserved)

I hope somebody can help me with this. Thanks in advance.

Koshy.

If this is a true VGA monitor, then it will only operate at a horizontal
scan rate of 31.5 KHz. It cannot be connected directly to an Amiga
which operates at 15.75 KHz. It can be used with a flicker fixer in
a 2000/2500. The cable is documented in the manual.

There are a few multiscanning monitors which are starting to use a
VGA style connector. One example is the NEC 3D. These monitors
can be used with the Amiga by connecting R, G, B, HSYNC, VSYNC and
a bunch of grounds. If the input loading of the monitor is less
than about 2000 ohms, it will be necessary to use TTL buffers
on the HSYNC and VSYNC outputs of the Amiga.
