I'm interested in any information on software which would allow a user to build an interactive application for information retrieval. The idea is to have a loop mode, with music, animation etc. until someone comes up to the computer and hits a key. Then a dialogue with the computer starts, and the person will be able to navigate in a tree of screens with text, graphics, sound and animation associated with each screen. Now my first idea is to write a kernel in C, and execute a director script for each screen. (It sure would be a lot nicer if the director had an Arexx port built in.) But since the people who would be putting together the screens etc. aren't necessarily technically oriented, I wondered if there are any "authoring systems" around out there? What I mean by "authoring system", is something simple enough for non technical people to use it. I have heard of a product called VIVA by Michtron. It can control a video disk (which we don't have or need) and comes in three different versions (from 50$ to 600$). It has an iconic programming language, which is supposed to be relatively easy to learn. Now what I'd like to know, is : Has any body heard of other similar products? Does any one know more about VIVA? Any information is welcome and vastly appreciated. -- Frank Anthes-Harper : Bien le bonjour de la France anthes@geocub.greco-prog.fr
