[comp.sys.amiga.tech] A2300 Genlock & Quarterback Failure

) (12/03/89)

A while back i posted a note about Quarterback failing on my A2000. It
would read my hard disks, but while writing to the floppies it would
always complain about bad floppies (which weren't really bad at all).
To complicate matters, a friend has another A2000 that had the same
symptoms, but he didn't have a genlock, so i didn't remove it. I
finally broke down (warranty was running out) and took it in to the
local repair shop.

The tech found that if he removed the A2300, Quarterback would work
fine. He tried another A2300 off-the-shelf, and it caused Quarterback
to fail too. I don't have any other problems with the genlock
installed, Quarterback (either V1.3 or V2.2) is the only thing that
fails. He thinks that maybe the A2300, by sitting in the video slot
eats up some bus bandwidth and with Quarterback's custom floppy
format, the system just can't handle it. Any other ideas out there? To
use Quarterback i must pull the genlock, which i don't enjoy!

I still have to track down the similar fault in my friends machine, we
don't have any idea why his fails with similar symptoms.

My configuration:
A2000 - rev 4.4 motherboard (resistor on U605)
Megaboard 2000 - 2M expansion memory
2090A
2 - RD51's (10M ST506)
A2300 genlock
Super Agnus (just installed)
2nd internal floppy

Santa must have come early...

I installed the Super Agnus chip and re-installed my A2300. I gave QB
a go and it backed up my entire drive, when previously i never got by the
first floppy. I pulled the motherboard to push the original Agnus out and
gave everything a pretty good shake. I'm at a loss as to why it works
now, but happy that it does.
