[comp.sys.amiga.tech] Problem: VLT Kermit and New Modem.

erikj@unmvax.cs.unm.edu (Erik Johannes) (12/06/89)

I just got a "new" 2400 baud modem : Concord Data Systems 224.
The modem is used and according to the manual, dates from 1985.
I am having a couple problems, one minor and one major.
The minor problem is that when I call up the UNIX system, it comes up
in uppercase. This is not really bad because I put "stty -lcase" into
my login file.

The bad problem I just found out. Kermit doesn't seem to work with the modem.
I assume it has something to do with my new modem because it always worked with
my old 1200 baud modem. The kermit doesn't work irregardless of the baud.
The problem is demonstrated by starting up the kermit server on the remote
system. I can not exit the server with the kermit-bye command. It just
doesn't seem to get through. When I try to get a file, the kermit gets error
packets (actually I don't think it gets far enough to get packets). If I
remember, it displays either 'A' or 'S' to indicate what it is doing and
keeps incrementing the error count. Eventually it errors out, I think, and
then gets a software error. It also doesn't work in just Send/Receive mode.

I have both VLT and the modem set to 8 bits, 1 stop bit, no parity, XON/XOFF.

Any suggestions/help would be greatly appreciated. I have been wanting a 2400
baud modem for a long time and would be greatly dissapointed if it didn't
work properly.

			Thank you,
				Erik Johannes.
