There was a brief note in a recent SIGSOFT about oxymorons, "contradictory concatenations". Examples are, "military intelligence", "jumbo shrimp", and etc. Someone here came up with a new one, "liquid crystal".

I prefer mixed metaphors, such as.. "The study of xxxxxxxxx is a virgin field, pregnant with possibilities"
