[comp.sys.amiga.tech] Need auto-config specs.

ammrk@swbatl.UUCP (Mike R. Kraml) (12/30/89)

Hello all:
Does anyone know where I can get the specs for designing an autoconfiguring
card on the amiga 2000 buss? I have a very simple d/a converter circuit I
would like to put on a card and have it autoconfig, but don't know where to
start. Any help would be great!!! Thanks, Mike...

Perhaps this should be a permanent post:

A500/A2000 Tech Ref Manual $40.00

mail order to:

CATS--Orders
Software Admin.

West Chester, PA 19380

check or money order only

A new version of this manual is due out, but I don't think it is currently
available. Perhaps you should write and ask.

What is the difference between this manual and the new "Amiga Hardware
Reference Manual" that is now out? It also has the specs on AutoConfig (tm).

For the most part, the difference is "how the software controlls the hardware"
versus "how to connect new hardware". For example, the Hardware Reference
Manual talks of things like "move.w #$7FFF,intena(a0) ;Disable interrupts"
whereas the Technical Reference Manual talks of things like "the CPU asserts
BG after receiving BR from the DMA device".

Here's an excerpt from the tables of contents for the two:
			----
Amiga Hardware Reference Manual (1989, blue cover with blue bit-mapped
Amiga logo), published by Addison-Westley.

Introduction, Coprocessor Hardware (programming the Copper), Playfield
Hardware (setting up bit planes, dual playfields, scrolling, HAM mode, color
registers), Sprite Hardware, Audio Hardware (how to play audio samples),
Blitter Hardware, System Control Hardware (collision detect, interrupts),
Interface Hardware (how do do I/O to floppy disk, keyboard, parallel port,
serial port), Custom Chip Register Summary, Custom Chip pin-outs, System
Memory Map, External Connector pin-outs, CIA (8520) chips, AutoConfig (from
a software point of view), Keyboard (raw key codes), detecting A1020 vs
A1010 external floppy.
			----
A2000/A500 Technical Reference Manual (1987, white spiral bound with C=
logo), published by Commodore.

Summary of Differences (between 500/2000 and 1000), System Block Diagrams,
Expansion hardware (100-pin for 2000, 86-pin for 500&1000, video slot), PC
Bridgeboard slots, Amiga Hard Disk/SCSI Controller, Custom Chips voltages and
timing, how much current each device can draw from +5V, Diagrams of expansion
connectors, Schematics of the German A2000, the US B2000, and the A500.
		----
Anyone designing boards to plug into the Amiga should read both manuals.
