[comp.sys.amiga.tech] Help with Kickrom Hack for A1000

I need some help with a ROM kickstart hack for A1000. I'm trying the scheme in
an article by Jude Katsch, supplemented by Bruce Takahashi. This hack involves
transferring Kickstart to EPROMS, installing two sockets on the motherboard,
installing some jumpers on the motherboard and daughterboard, and prayer. I
think I foloowed the instructions, and the durn thing doesn't work.

By restoring the jumpers and cut traces, and reinstalling the orignal
bootstrap ROMS, I 've returned the A1000 to operation. (The extra sockets are
still installed).

To facilitate troubleshooting, I installed DIP switches on all cut traces and
new jumpers, so I could switch between configurations easily.

SYMPTOMS:
In the Katsch configuration, the monitor stays gray, the power supply LED
flashes three times, then stays bright. It periodically (about once per
second) flashes again. Monitor stays gray.

In the original configuration, the power supply LED flashes three times, goes
dim, then the INSERT KICKSTART Icon comes up on the screen.

If I install the original ROMS, and the original jumper positions on the
daughterboard, the A1000 seems to come up ok- I get the KICKSTART Icon.
If I then change the daughterboard jumpers to the Katsch configuration, I get
the gray monitor treatment.

The problem seems to be in the daughterboard jumpers. I have a Rev 3
daughterboard and a Rev A motherboard. I have grounded my PAL chips earlier.

Here's a summary of the daughterboard jumper instructions that I followed:
CUT THE FOLLOWING TRACES, Solder Side:
U6J pin 2
U6J pin 8
U5M pin 4
U5M pin 5
U5M pin 6

ADD JUMPERS:
U6J pin 8 to U6J pin 10
U6J pin 2 to U5M pin 4
U6N pin 6 to U5M pin 5
J3 pin 2 to U5M pin 6
U5M pin 9 to U5M pin 7.

Anybody have any ideas?
