HELP!
I need y'all's help. My Amiga 500 has 'died' and I need some advice
and suggestions as to the possible cause.
I have an Amiga 500 w/ 512k. Two days ago I bought a 2400 baud modem
and an RS232, 25 pin, m-f cable for it. After using it for about
25 minutes, the screen suddenly developed thin vertical blank lines,
then the pointer disappeared, and finally the middle of the screen
filled w/ blue static. I promptly rebooted and was greeted with:
a green screen and the power light's blinking 11 times, pausing, and
repeating.
I seem to remember reading a yr ago about a similar problem, and if
memory serves the cause was a mis-seated Fat Agnus chip. I have
therefore tried to reseat it (I've tried removing it completely and
re-inserting it). Didn't help. I've tried the drop fix too.
I finally broke down yesterday and took it to a repair place, and
after replacing all the major custom chips and checking the roms and
rams, they still can't find
the problem. Their solution is to completely replace the
motherboard!
Have any of you experienced a similar problem? Does anyone have
any advice as to other possible causes? (I really don't think
the modem had anything to do with it, but I thought I should be
complete.)
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Pls send responses
to my id: hanes@phao.eng.ohio-state.edu
Thanking you in advance,
Mark Hanes
P.S. Does anyone know of any more Amiga repair shops in Columbus OH...
I know of only one.
