[comp.sys.amiga.tech] Multi-syncs, ECS, and the Flicker Fixer

news@bmers58.UUCP (news) (01/23/90)

I have an angle on a Mitsubishi #C6912 1024x1024 19" multi-sync,
(28-35 Khz Horizontal, 50-70 Hz Vertical), for a very good price (CDN$750).
They were picked up at an auction - they are not hot.

I have a few questions:
o I would like to know how I will be able to use this with the new
ECS. Will I be able to use the "Productivity Mode"?

o What are the dimensions of this mode?

o Are there any other modes that I will be able to use?

o Is 1024x1024 a waste on the Amiga or will I be able to take
advantage of all that real-estate? (I certainly take advantage of it
    all on my Sun)

o If I get a flicker-fixer, how much of the area will I be able to use?
In Productivity Mode? In currently available modes? (Is there any
way to expand 400 scanlines into 800 by duplicating? That is, keep
the same scale as 200 lines but with 400. I don't care for having
the use of only a small portion of the screen for everyday work.

o Is a display that big going to bog down with only 1M chip RAM? There
will only be enough memory for 8 planes...
This is a concern because, if I buy this monitor, I probably won't
be able to get the 030 board for a while.

o Would I be better off with a smaller multi-sync, say 14", the cost
of which would be probably be comparable.

o Are there any good questions I didn't ask? Can you answer them too?

Thank you again everybody,
