The TRS80 Mod I uses the expansion interface. A serial interface board is an add-on to the expansion interface. It is both switch- and software-setup, and can be set to be either DTE or DCE by a switch on the board. Chances are that there are a lot of used TRS-80-I's around with both expansion box and serial board. Here at UNC-G we have been in contact with two vendors which market devices taking ASCII input from a terminal and display it, 20 or 24 characters at a time, in Braille. Both of these devices are microprocessor controlled, and include a stan- dard cassette recorder which can store information keyed-in in Braille, edit it and reproduce it. When interfaced to serial ASCII, they will also record the info re- ceived from micro or mainframe. One vendor is: Triformation Systems, Inc. (Microbrailler) 3121 S.E. Jay Street Stuart, FL 33497 (305) 283-4817 The other is: Telesensory Systems, Inc. (Versabraille) 3408 Hillview Avenue P.O. Box 10099 Palo Alto, CA 94304 (415) 493-2626 Connecting a VOTRAX to a terminal to speak to people is clearly another way to go-- but ain't it a bit noisy? T. W.
